THE PROBLEM

Lack of Sustainable Rural Electrification

Our team believes that all communities should be able to benefit from contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and should also be able to take advantage of affordable, clean energy. As a result, our project revolves around this question: how can we make solar energy more accessible and sustainable for remote, off-grid communities?

THE SOLUTION

Affordable Solar Technology

In response to the global challenge of affordable and clean energy, our team created the Solar Floatie, a low-cost solar concentrator that generates both electricity and heat, and can be implemented to meet the energy needs of various off-grid communities.

WHO ARE WE?

We're a capstone team of York University students, ranging from mechanical engineers, humanities, space engineers, global politics, electrical engineers, and international development studies majors. Our supervisor is Dr. Thomas Cooper.

We're interested in solutions that benefit the communities around us, and enable them to do so for themselves.
