Where Curiosity Meets Creativity

The Solar Floatie was created as a part of a multidisciplinary capstone project at York University in Canada. In considering the overarching problem of climate change and the lack of accessible, renewable energy options for off-grid communities, a team of students from various disciplines worked together to create a solution to this challenge. Their answer came in the form of creating an affordable solar concentrator for heat and electricity generation that can be implemented to meet the needs of different communities. This website showcases the journey of how they created this solution, their motivations for choosing to work on this project, what they learned, and the results of their work.
